Events Info ~ What to Bring ~ About AGF ~ Getting Here
Festival Events Information Our weekend events center around the activities of the Aleutian Goose. Tens of thousands of this once endangered species visit our community each spring. When planning your schedule, make sure you include the phenomenal spectacle of the Goose Fly-off at Dawn, and at least one trip to see the Fields of Geese feeding in outlying farmlands. We offer numerous opportunities to fit geese trips into your day's choices and still find time for other nature, birding, and heritage excursions. Join our local and regional naturalists, biologists, botanists, ornithologists, and historians for a chance to enjoy some of Del Norte County's abundant natural and cultural offerings. The festival is organized with several different themes. Reflecting the diversity of birds, habitats, wildlife, culture, and history found in our unique region, each theme can be explored in totality or samplings can be taken from several. We also offer a multitude of other specialized programs led by expert local and regional ornithologists, biologists, botanists, naturalists, historians, and American Indians.

The Festival officially begins on Friday morning at 7:00 A.M. with check-in and ends on Monday at 8:00 A.M. when the last trips leave. All trips will depart from the Crescent City Cultural Center, 1001 Front Street, at the times listed on your registration and in this booklet. Length of times listed for field trips are approximate and include travel time. Workshop and field trip leaders, or their representative, will meet with participants at the Cultural Center and escort them to the designated sites. PLEASE BE PROMPT. Times listed are departure time: Most field trips will go rain or shine! The main exceptions are the water excursions, and evening owls, which are weather dependent.

What to Bring Early spring on the North Coast can be sunny, warm and dry - or rainy, cold and windy. Always prepare for rain. Dress in layers. Waterproof boots and jackets are a must. Bring personal binoculars, scopes, field guides, and other essentials. For all water and ocean excursions, it is extremely important to dress warmly. Bring wet weather gear and something to dry and protect fragile optics, and an extra set of dry clothes. Events are scheduled to allow time for meals at local restaurants in between.
